From October 1st to 28th, Brétigny-sur-Orge joins the global Pink October campaign to fight breast cancer, offering a series of awareness, prevention, and fundraising initiatives.

The town of Brétigny-sur-Orge is actively participating in Pink October, the international mobilization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Throughout October, the municipality is organizing various actions focused on awareness, prevention, and donation collection.
Starting on Thursday, October 1st, shopkeepers in the town center and the Auchan shopping gallery will receive donation boxes, flyers, and pink ribbons, distributed by volunteers from the Communal Citizen Reserve and the Senior Service. In the afternoon, a "Tout en Rose" (All in Pink) cooking workshop will be held at the Espace Nelson Mandela, offering the creation of pink shortbread cookies upon registration.
On Friday, October 2nd, the cooking workshop will be repeated at the Espace Nelson Mandela. The evening will feature the official launch of the campaign at Ciné220, with a convivial reception at 7 PM followed by a screening of the film Viva in preview and a debate led by Dr. Sylvie Murawa Durand, an oncologist with the Ligue contre le Cancer de l’Essonne.
On Saturday, October 3rd, a stand dedicated to Pink October will be present at the flea market (place du 11 novembre). The Ligue contre le Cancer de l’Essonne will provide information to the public on screening and self-examination. A wellness area will offer massages, and a "heart cushion" sewing workshop will hold a solidarity sale of these cushions for the benefit of the League.
On Friday, October 9th, and Saturday, October 10th, volunteers from the Communal Citizen Reserve and the Senior Service will organize a donation drive in front of Intermarché (town center) and in the Auchan shopping gallery. Each pink ribbon collected will represent a donation.
A musical bingo evening is also scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, starting at 7 PM at the Espace Nelson Mandela, organized by the association Bréti’Festi. The funds raised will be donated to Pink October.
The Pink October month will conclude on Saturday, October 28th, at the Salle Maison Neuve starting at 11 AM, with the presentation of the check for donations collected to the Ligue contre le Cancer de l’Essonne, followed by a festive meal and a dancing afternoon.
Essential prevention information is also recalled: an annual clinical examination is recommended from age 25, a mammogram every two years for women aged 50 to 74, and prompt consultation with a healthcare professional in case of unusual changes.
Breast cancer, the most common cancer among women, can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases if detected early. The Pink October campaign, which originated in the United States, has been celebrated in France since 1994.
