In mid-October, as every year, half of the Children's Municipal Council (CME) was renewed through elections in the town's schools. The newly elected children will spend two years discovering how local institutions function and will lead concrete projects for the town. Concurrently, the Youth Municipal Council (CMJ) is also being refreshed, following a call for candidacies open from September 14 to October 13. The new members will be inaugurated at the commemoration ceremony of the Armistice on November 11, thus beginning their terms of service to the town.
The CME consists of 24 children elected in CM1 for a 2-year term, while the CMJ brings together 16 young residents of Épinay-sous-Sénart aged 11 to 17, for a renewable one-year term. Both councils meet twice a month to advance their projects and participate in plenary sessions presided over by Mayor Damien ALLOUCH.
The young elected officials are involved in community life through concrete projects. This summer, two 'Friendship Benches' were installed in the Le Pré aux Agneaux and Alphonse Daudet schools, initiated by the CME, to combat isolation. The CME and CMJ are also present during the town's key events such as the Telethon, the Seniors' Banquet, and commemorations, upholding values of solidarity and sharing. They notably visited residents of the Maison Sainte-Hélène to strengthen intergenerational bonds.
The work of the CME and CMJ was recognized this summer at the fair of the Association of Mayors of Île-de-France (AMIF). Their project to create a local committee to combat harassment, initiated in 2025, earned them a Trophy for Children's and Youth Municipal Councils from AMIF, thereby rewarding the commitment of Épinay-sous-Sénart's youth in this civic journey.
