This Thursday, October 1st, as part of national lyceen mobilizations, gatherings took place in Étampes. The municipality reaffirms the right of lyceens to mobilize peacefully, emphasizing that the majority of young people present wished to express themselves calmly.
The City deeply regrets the subsequent disturbances, clashes with law enforcement, and damage to urban furniture. These acts of violence, which injured officers from the National Police and the Municipal Police, are deemed unacceptable.
The municipality wishes to commend and thank law enforcement for their commitment, as well as express support for the injured officers. It also thanks the educational teams of the lycees and the town's mediators for their role in fostering dialogue and appeasement, and the city's technical services staff for their work in cleaning and securing the affected areas.
In this context, the City of Étampes calls on everyone to act responsibly and contribute to the return of calm. The right to demonstrate and the expression of youth must be able to occur with respect for people and property, and without violence.
