In Puteaux, the fight against food waste is taken seriously in schools. The Benoît Malon elementary school won the Fourchette d’or trophy for the 2025-2026 school year, with only 20.54 g of food waste per meal, well below the national average of around 100 g. This success is based on students measuring leftovers, adapting portion sizes, menu planning, and raising awareness among staff.
Since 2021, Courbevoie has implemented commitment charters against food waste with supermarkets, hospitals, and businesses. Approximately 500,000 meals have been saved and redistributed to charitable organizations. In 2025, the central kitchen also incorporated 26 tons of downgraded fruits, an initiative recognized by the FAO's 'Green Cities' program.
In Levallois-Perret, the Éco-Trophée, created in 2013 and now in partnership with POLD and the CCI des Hauts-de-Seine, rewards committed businesses. Its 10th edition in 2025 honored the Fleur de Café shop for its commitment to the city's anti-waste charter.
These initiatives inspire the entire territory. In 2025, POLD approved three anti-food waste charters for large and medium-sized retailers, food businesses, and collective catering. Representatives from the municipalities will visit the Benoît Malon school's canteen in Puteaux in November to exchange best practices.
Did you know? Nearly half of food waste in restaurants and canteens is still edible, compared to about a third at home. In Rueil-Malmaison, 9 businesses partnered with Phenix have already redistributed over 300,000 meals from their unsold goods.
