The town of Brou-sur-Chantereine is inaugurating its very first Children's Municipal Council (CME). This initiative aims to allow the youngest to express themselves, discover democratic life, and bring their own projects to fruition for the municipality.
The CME offers children the chance to become the spokesperson for the town's youth. As junior municipal councillors, they will be able to propose and implement projects in various fields such as environment, sport, solidarity, or culture. They will also discover how the town hall operates and develop their civic spirit, while representing their peers at official events.
All students enrolled in CM1 and CM2 classes, attending Jean Jaurès and Romain Rolland schools, are eligible. To apply, candidates must collect the registration form from their teacher, discuss the role of a councillor as a family, and then submit the completed form.
The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, November 2, 2026. Civic engagement is presented as a personal endeavor that should primarily remain a pleasure, emphasizing that the decision to run must come entirely from the child.
The young citizens will experience several key democratic stages: the election campaign from November 3 to 6, election day on Thursday, November 12, the solemn installation of the new elected officials on Saturday, November 21 in the town hall's wedding hall, and finally, the first working session on Saturday, December 5.
