The municipalities of Saint-Denis and Pierrefitte have strongly condemned all forms of violence and vandalism, reaffirming their commitment to republican values, respect for people and property, and the freedom to demonstrate peacefully. In solidarity with municipalities responding to the AMF's (Association des Maires de France) call, they will not organize a traditional rally, opting instead to prioritize proximity.
These communes will focus on engaging with local shopkeepers, interacting with young people in public spaces and municipal structures, and mobilizing the municipal police for public tranquility. The aim is to foster de-escalation.
They emphasize that the urgency is primarily political and social, and that it is incumbent upon the President of the Republic and the government to provide concrete responses. The solution cannot be solely security-focused; it must address root causes such as inequality and precariousness.
The municipality warns against using these gatherings as a pretext for the state to disengage or transfer its responsibilities to the communes, which are on the front lines and cannot substitute for it.
They support the legitimate demands of high school and university students, and all those calling for concrete measures against the rising cost of living. Faced with social difficulties, they demand political responses and call for solidarity and fraternity to be upheld.
