This summer, the country experienced 172 fires that ravaged 116,000 hectares, leading to the evacuation of over 200,000 people and the destruction or damage of several hundred homes and buildings. Fires also struck Algeria, while in Nepal, a deadly flood was caused by the collapse of a glacier. These events serve as a reminder: climate change exacerbates phenomena that affect populations, particularly the most vulnerable, and their consequences concern us even when they occur far from urban centers.
In Tremblay-en-France, the effects of climate change have been taken into account in the town's decisions for several years. Areas such as mobility, consumption, urban planning, and environmental protection require continuous action to prevent and adapt.
As Mayor Virginie De Carvalho recalled, local authorities need additional resources to anticipate the worsening climate crisis and better protect their residents. "The role of local elected officials is essential in managing extreme weather events. This highlights the need to give them more means to anticipate phenomena that are set to become more frequent and more intense."
The motion therefore asks the State to strengthen its support for local authorities through appropriate funding, particularly by substantially increasing the "Fonds vert" (Green Fund), to accompany the ecological transition and the adaptation of territories. It also calls for a national environmental policy based on sobriety and energy efficiency.
