Following the La Chesnaie and Anatole-France schools, the Marronniers kindergarten in Beauchamp has seen its courtyard transformed over the past summer. This project, named "Oasis Courtyard," aims to integrate more nature, provide shade, and create new areas for play and learning.
The design of this new courtyard was a collaborative process. The City, supported by the Val d'Oise Council for Architecture, Urbanism, and Environment (CAUE 95), involved children, teaching and after-school staff, technical teams, and parents in several workshops. This participatory approach helped define the most suitable features for the children's needs.
The renovated courtyard now features a central planted area, huts, a landscaped embankment, and an educational garden, offering multiple zones to explore. An "outdoor classroom" has been created, shaded by three mulberry trees, equipped with a blackboard and 26 log seats. A green swale has also been installed to collect rainwater.
This project also addresses a major environmental concern: reducing soil impermeabilization. The proportion of impervious surfaces whose water drains into the sanitation networks has thus decreased from 63% to 19%. To enhance safety, the hedge of laurels and privets, along with a large cedar tree deemed dangerous and at the end of its life, have been replaced by new plantings.
Greener, cooler, and more vibrant, the Marronniers courtyard now offers a new space for play, learning, and relaxation. This investment of nearly €123,000 was entirely funded by the City.
