The IDEM project (Identities distorted by administrative error and its mechanisms: profiles, inequalities, and institutional responses) has secured funding from the National Research Agency (ANR). This sociological and demographic research initiative will commence in January 2027 and span four years.
The project is supported by a consortium of four partners: the PRINTEMPS Laboratory (UVSQ/CNRS), the Research Centre of the Institute of Demography at the University (CRIDUP-Paris 1), the Migrations Internationales et Minorités (MIM) research unit at INED, and the Defender of Rights. Adama Ouedraogo, a demography specialist and researcher at the PRINTEMPS laboratory, is coordinating this project.
The coordinator's role involves a dual mission: administrative, including liaison with the ANR, partnership management, and financial oversight, as well as a scientific mission to guide all research stages, from data management to the dissemination of results.
The IDEM project offers an analysis of administrative identification errors in France, such as collisions, homonymies, or duplicates, which are often overlooked but can have significant consequences. It explores how these errors can lead to marginalization, territorial inequalities, and amplify social discrimination (based on gender, social class, migratory origin, etc.).
Employing a mixed-methods approach, the project combines documentary analysis, exploitation of administrative databases, questionnaire surveys, and qualitative research. The expected outcomes aim to inform public decision-makers about the impact of administrative identification errors and to strengthen the link between research and society.
The ANR funding amounts to 592,201 euros. The scientific launch is scheduled for December 2026, with a duration of 48 months.
