This summer, several fires affected French forests, notably in Fontainebleau and the Landes. Among the mobilized firefighters, Sergeant-major Metral and Corporal Miteau share their experiences.

Sergeant-major Metral and Corporal Miteau, firefighters from the Val d’Yerres rescue center, were deployed during the recent forest fires. Sergeant-major Metral described their operation in Fontainebleau: 'We were on duty during the fire. From 8:30 AM, we responded to the call, having been trained in forest fire fighting. On site, we implemented a strategy to combat the fire, supervised by the group leader, until nightfall.'
Although fire incidents account for only about 6% of operations in Essonne, the Val d’Yerres rescue center is equipped with a Forest Fire Tanker Truck (CCF) and its teams receive quality training, anticipating an increase in such disasters.

"It's impressive! We are proud to have been able to apply our expertise and contribute to controlling the fire. This experience also allows us to better prepare for future fires in Île-de-France and elsewhere."

Corporal Miteau, on the other hand, was mobilized for a week in the Landes. He described it as a demanding experience: 'I was mobilized for a week, from 8 AM to after 9 PM. It's very physical, especially with the high temperatures. The experience is striking, but I am proud of what I was able to contribute and what it has given me for the future.'
