During this event, speakers addressed the prejudices surrounding organ donation and answered questions from the residents of Bois-Colombes. The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of this life-saving act.
In 2025, France recorded a record 6,148 transplants. Despite this figure, 33,000 patients were awaiting a transplant, and 966 unfortunately passed away during the year.
Organ donation involves retrieving one or more organs from a deceased person, or more rarely a living donor, to transplant them into a patient. The most frequently transplanted organs are the kidney, liver, heart, and lungs. Tissues such as corneas, skin, bones, heart valves, and blood vessels can also be donated.
In France, every person is considered an organ donor by default, unless they have expressed their opposition. Grieving families sometimes oppose donation after a loved one's death, highlighting the importance of communicating one's wishes to family.
