Facing climate change, the city of Rueil-Malmaison has convened its services and elected officials to brainstorm adaptation solutions, generating nearly 150 ideas.

On June 29, representatives from Early Childhood, Education, Technical Services, and the Living Environment departments met with the mayor, his deputy for Sustainable Development, Environment, and Agenda 2030, Stéphane Marrec, his delegated municipal councilor for Energy Transition, Nicolas-Robert Ballester, as well as elected officials from the majority and opposition.
During this collective reflection, the mayor urged the 36 members to "seek out good ideas, elsewhere in France or even in countries often facing high heat, from which we could draw inspiration." The first measure adopted is to equip each classroom with two ceiling fans, totaling 400 rooms per school! The steering of this committee was entrusted to Isabelle Hyvernage, Agenda 2030 project manager, within which this "Climate Committee" is fully integrated.
This initial phase led to the emergence of nearly 150 ideas around several themes: developing air conditioning in certain municipal facilities (particularly at the Micro-Folie), alternative cooling solutions to air conditioning, adapting buildings (insulation or greening), solidarity actions such as creating a network of "freshness ambassadors," or improving the living environment through, perhaps, reduced-price cinema tickets or shared gardens. The costs of implementing these proposals will now be calculated to be integrated into the preparation of the 2027 municipal budget, while also seeking aid from the State (Fonds vert), the Métropole du Grand Paris, and the Île-de-France region.
The mayor and committee members also wished to involve residents in this reflection by creating an "idea box" accessible to all on the platform jaimerueiljeparticipe, launched in mid-July and still active. All selected ideas, whether from committee members or residents, will be presented at the next Climate Committee meeting, scheduled for the fall.
