On the occasion of the 5th Metropolitan City Center Assizes, the Métropole du Grand Paris announced aid of €600,000 to support merchants affected by the damage that occurred on October 17th.

The Métropole du Grand Paris, in partnership with Centre-Ville en Mouvement, brought together elected officials, merchants, and experts for the 5th Metropolitan City Center Assizes. The event was marked by the announcement of aid measures for merchants affected by the October 17th damage and the presentation of the CSA 2026 barometer on residents' relationship with their city centers. The Minister of SMEs, Commerce, Crafts, Tourism, and Purchasing Power, Serge PAPIN, reiterated the importance of commercial revitalization and the role of mayors.
Following the damage, Patrick OLLIER, President of the Métropole du Grand Paris and Mayor of Rueil-Malmaison, announced the mobilization of a €600,000 fund to support affected merchants. This funding complements those from the Île-de-France Region, the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Ile-de-France, and the City of Paris. The program provides €1,500 per business, which can be combined with other aid, with the goal of disbursement before Christmas.
“

"Faced with the acts of vandalism and looting our merchants have suffered, the Métropole du Grand Paris is committed and mobilizing, alongside its partners, a fund of €600,000, or €1,500 per business victimized by the damage, to support their business recovery. The revitalization of city centers is a fight I have been leading for over twenty years. Since 2018, with our 'Living City Centers' program and thanks to our Commercial Real Estate Fund, created just three years ago, we support mayors and give them the means to preserve their local businesses and sustainably strengthen the vitality and attractiveness of their city centers!"

Patrick OLLIER · President of the Métropole du Grand Paris

"For merchants impacted by the events of October 17th, every day counts. As the Christmas period approaches, during which nearly 40% of their annual turnover is generated, the CCI Paris Ile-de-France is fully mobilized to provide rapid, concrete, and adapted support, both in terms of procedures and financial aid. More than ever, we stand by them in the long term to help them reopen quickly. This is where our partnership with the Métropole du Grand Paris truly makes sense."

Dominique RESTINO · President of the CCI Paris-Ile-de-France
The CSA 2026 Barometer on city center consumer expectations reveals that 82% of residents in the Métropole du Grand Paris are attached to their city center, and 89% visit it at least once a week. While 77% enjoy visiting their city center, 68% remain concerned about its vitality. Modernization is considered a priority by 87% of respondents, who see mayors as the most relevant actors. The revitalization of local businesses is their primary expectation (30%).

"The future of our city centers is a major societal issue. We must support local commerce and crafts, accompany their transformations, and give mayors the means to act. A vibrant and commercial city center is essential for quality of life and social cohesion. At a time when isolation is increasing in our society, our city centers must more than ever remain places of meeting, exchange, and conviviality. I would even say they are the real-life social networks."

Philippe LAURENT · President of Centre-Ville en Mouvement, Vice-President of the Métropole du Grand Paris and Mayor of Sceaux
The 'Living City Centers' program of the Métropole du Grand Paris, launched in 2018, has already benefited 110 municipalities out of 130, totaling €43.1 million. The Living City Centers Real Estate Fund, created in 2023, has received over 90 requests from mayors. The 'Set up your business in the Metropolis' initiative, developed with the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, aims to reduce commercial vacancy.
The Assizes also explored the opportunities offered by innovation and artificial intelligence for merchants and artisans, the emergence of new commercial concepts, and the adaptation of offerings to consumption habits. The awarding of 'Coquelicots d'or' diplomas and special prizes recognized municipalities committed to the valorization and revitalization of their city centers, including Gennevilliers, Montreuil, Saint-Denis, Argenteuil, and Nanterre.
