On September 24th, the Chair « Physics and Chemistry of Innovative Materials », a joint initiative by ESPCI Paris – PSL and Saint-Gobain Research, organized a workshop dedicated to solutions for more sustainable construction. The event brought together academic researchers and industry professionals for a day of scientific exchange.
The Chair aims to strengthen the links between fundamental research at ESPCI and the innovation challenges faced by Saint-Gobain. This biannual workshop directly reflects this mission, fostering the sharing of advancements and the emergence of new collaborations among physicists, chemists, and engineers.
The program featured ten presentations covering a broad thematic spectrum, from fundamental phenomena at the nanoscale to industrialization challenges. Topics included adaptive materials for passive building cooling, thermal transport, the circular economy of glass, photonics, electrochemical membranes for water electrolysis, amorphous solid mechanics, and the chemistry of concrete admixtures. Each contribution underscored a shared ambition for ecological transition.
A poster session concluded the morning, providing a more informal space for exchange. It allowed numerous researchers, particularly doctoral and post-doctoral students, to present their work and establish new contacts between the two communities.
