The AP-HP and Inserm have formalized the extension of their strategic partnership for the next three decades. This collaboration, ongoing for over fifty years, aims to consolidate the dynamic between care, research, and health innovation. The agreement will facilitate resource sharing and simplify the daily work of clinicians, researchers, and research staff.
This exceptional scientific collaboration is demonstrated by the involvement of thousands of AP-HP professionals within 146 Inserm joint research units (UMR) in Île-de-France. It also includes 11 clinical investigation centers (CIC), 26 hospital-university federations (FHU), the co-founding of 7 hospital-university institutes (IHU), 4 SIRICs (integrated cancer research sites), and joint participation in 4 bioclusters.
The new framework agreement establishes research governance at the university site level, with the creation of five local health research committees. These committees, involving the AP-HP, Inserm, and universities, will strengthen research strategy coherence and scientific dynamics, facilitating the execution of structuring projects.
The agreement also secures the hosting of Inserm's joint research units within AP-HP hospital sites for the next 30 years. A real estate monitoring committee will identify and anticipate renovation and adaptation needs for the facilities.
Conditions for hosting AP-HP professionals within Inserm units have been clarified to facilitate their practice. Pathways between care and research will be encouraged to develop professional trajectories, particularly through the secondment of hospital professionals to Inserm laboratories.
Operationally, the agreement simplifies the implementation of joint research projects by defining common principles for project setup, monitoring, valorization, data sharing, and access to biological samples.
The two organizations also reaffirm their commitment to collaborate on research ethics and integrity. Inserm and AP-HP historically share a common strategic vision focused on the capacity to lead international-level innovation and research policies, developing an integrated ecosystem between research and care, and strengthening the attractiveness of hospital-university and research careers.
