The Villeneuve Demain project, aimed at modernizing the Villeneuve Saint-Georges technical center for Regio 2N and RER NG train maintenance, has passed four major milestones since May 2026.

The modernization project for the Villeneuve Saint-Georges technical center, named Villeneuve Demain, is progressing successfully. This major undertaking will enable new-generation maintenance for the Regio 2N and RER NG trains serving Line R and RER D. Following the project's launch in 2019 and the groundbreaking ceremony in 2024, four significant operations were completed between May and July 2026.
From May 1st to 3rd, 2026, during extensive railway network works, teams finalized the connection of the technical center's 'bays' to the national rail network. These areas, through which trains enter and exit the technical center premises, have now been connected to the network. This historic operation involved over 150 agents.
On the same weekend, the spoil conveyor, which facilitated the evacuation of construction materials via the river, was removed. This system had prevented the circulation of 10,228 trucks. Its removal marks the end of the massive spoil evacuation phase.
On May 19, 2026, a custom-made pit lathe (TEF) was installed. This equipment allows for the machining of wheels directly under the train to correct wear. Manufactured in France, it is specifically designed for the Regio 2N and RER NG trains. Following its connection, initial tests began in late June.
Finally, on July 6, 2026, the first Regio 2N trainset arrived on site. This event allows for real-world testing of train reception and circulation procedures within the technical center, preparing for subsequent testing phases. It also highlights the collective mobilization of teams from SNCF Voyageurs, SNCF Réseau, and project partners.
Work continues, with the new facilities scheduled for operational use by the end of 2026. The workshops will then begin maintaining trains. Renovation work on existing facilities will continue through 2027, with full operation of the modernized technical center for Line R and RER D trains expected in 2028.
