La Fabrique des Savoirs, the result of a partnership between Gustave Eiffel University and Paris - Vallée de la Marne, is offering a series of discussions in the media libraries of Paris - Vallée de la Marne. These events aim to reveal the surprising and little-known richness of our earth, particularly in urban environments, and to highlight the imperative need for its protection against human activities.
The first event, titled "Can Urban Soils Be Repaired?", will take place on Saturday, October 10th at 4 PM at the Médiathèque François-Mitterrand, in Pontault-Combault. It will explore how citizens can make soils fertile again, whether for pleasure gardens or vegetable patches. Tools ranging from depollution to renaturation will be presented to sustainably enhance urban common spaces. This discussion will be led by Lou Gomez, a doctoral student in spatial planning and urbanism at Lab’Urba. Registration is available via an online link or directly at the media library.
The second event, "Do You Know How to Plant Cabbages?", will be held on Saturday, November 14th at 4 PM at the Médiathèque d’Émery – Raphaël-Cuevas, in Émerainville. Aimed at children aged 5 and up, this fun workshop will cover growing fruits and vegetables. The associated discussion, led by Anne Ruas, a researcher in geography and geomatics at Gustave Eiffel University, will focus on the impacts of human activities on urban soils, such as impermeabilization and pollution, and will consider soils as a common good. Registration is online or at the media library.
Finally, on Saturday, December 12th at 4 PM, the Médiathèque Aimé-Césaire in Roissy-en-Brie will host "The Road Upside Down". This workshop, for children aged 8 and up, will explore the multiple layers beneath the asphalt. The subsequent discussion, "Do We Really Know Our Planet and the Earth That Carries Us?", will be led by Nicolas Coltice, a teacher-researcher in geodynamics at the Université Côte d’Azur. He will discuss the role of the earth as an ecosystem that makes biodiversity and human sustenance possible. Registration is also available online or at the media library.
In parallel with these discussions, fun workshops on the same themes will be offered to the participants' children. For more information, visit https://mediatheques.agglo-pvm.fr/.
