This new urban 'green lung', nestled on the edge of the Sensitive Natural Area (ENS) of the Bois de La Rochette, addresses several major challenges: strengthening biodiversity, combating climate change, and providing accessible natural space while preserving ecological corridors for wildlife.
The project is part of the 'Integrated Territorial Investment' (ITI) program, a scheme managed by the Melun Val de Seine Agglomeration Community that mobilizes European funds for urban development actions. This initiative aligns with the European biodiversity strategy for 2030.
The site, formerly polluted by industrial activity, has been remediated and de-impermeabilized. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) contributed €198,878 to finance, among other things, the planting, lighting, and installation of ecological furniture. The town of La Rochette, the Île-de-France Region, and the State also participated in the funding.
The inauguration was attended by several officials, including Sébastien Lime, Secretary General of the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne, Denis Jullemier, Vice-President of the Department of Seine-et-Marne, Julien Aguin, Vice-President of the Melun Val de Seine Agglomeration Community, Pierre Yvroud, Mayor of La Rochette, and Ms. Berbesson, President of the association Les Amis de l’Histoire de La Rochette.
