The Provins Middle Ages Prize, established in 2007, annually recognizes a historical essay dedicated to the Middle Ages, intended for the general public. The laureate is chosen by a jury of historians and specialists, chaired by historian Laurent Theis, in partnership with the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.
On September 12, the 2026 prize was awarded to Thierry P.F. Leroy for his work Naissance des Templiers. During the ceremony, the Mayor of Provins recalled the historical connections between the city and the Order of the Templars, emphasizing Provins' strategic and economic importance during the golden age of the Champagne Fairs. The Templar presence is still evident in local place names, such as Rue des Templiers and Fontaine des Templiers.
