SMITOM-LOMBRIC continues its infrastructure modernization strategy with the opening of two new facilities aimed at improving waste management in its territory. These projects aim to meet growing needs, optimize user reception, and increase sorting and recovery performance.
The new Tertre de Chérisy waste disposal center, inaugurated on Friday, September 18, 2026, has been operational since October 10, 2025. It replaces the old facility in Vaux-le-Pénil and offers a more spacious and modern area. This new center promises smoother and safer circulation, enlarged drop-off zones, more precise sorting of various waste (green waste, rubble, metals, furniture, DIY and gardening materials), and promotes reuse, recycling, and recovery. This investment, integrated into the SMITOM-LOMBRIC's network of 11 waste disposal centers, amounts to over 3 million euros.
In parallel, Saturday, September 19, 2026 saw the inauguration of the new packaging sorting center. The result of several years of cooperation between SMITOM-LOMBRIC, SIVOM Vallée de l’Yerres et des Sénarts, and SYTRADEM, this cutting-edge facility is designed to process up to 42,000 tons of packaging per year, tripling the capacity of the old center (around 15,000 tons). It will serve over 600,000 inhabitants. Equipped with 9 optical sorters and over 100 conveyor belts, it represents an investment of approximately 32 million euros. Design, construction, and operation have been entrusted to Veolia, with financial support from the Région Île-de-France and Citeo.
These two achievements are part of SMITOM-LOMBRIC's strategy to modernize its equipment to meet current waste management challenges. The goal is to better receive, sort, recycle, and recover waste, thereby strengthening public service and promoting the development of the circular economy. Citizen participation, however, remains essential for the success of these initiatives.
