This Saturday, October 17, 2026, the town of Le Bourget is organizing a commemorative ceremony to honor the victims of the repression of October 17, 1961, in Paris.

On October 17, 1961, during the Algerian War, tens of thousands of Algerian men and women demonstrated peacefully in Paris against the discriminatory curfew imposed on them. This demonstration was violently repressed, resulting in numerous victims. Long silenced, this page of history has gradually been recognized.
In 2021, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the events, the French State acknowledged the responsibility of the authorities at the time. The President of the Republic then declared that "the crimes committed that night under the authority of Maurice Papon are inexcusable for the Republic."
Through this commemorative ceremony, the City of Le Bourget wishes to pay tribute to the victims and contribute to transmitting this long-hidden memory to present and future generations.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 6 PM, on the forecourt of the Town Hall.
