The City of Franconville is inviting 18-year-olds, newly registered on the electoral rolls, to a citizenship ceremony. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3rd, at 10 a.m., in the Municipal Council Hall of the Hôtel de ville. This ceremony aims to symbolically mark their entry into civic life and discuss the associated duties.
The objective is to recall the fundamental principles of the Republic and democracy, in a context of declining electoral participation among younger generations. Concerned individuals have received an invitation requesting confirmation of their attendance.
« On the occasion of this long-awaited transition to 18 years for these new citizens, it is important that they become aware of their rights and duties, thus enabling constructive integration into life and a quality personal or family future for the general interest. These foundations will open many doors for them: office, industry, health, state (police, firefighters), constituted bodies. », specifies Roland Chanudet, Municipal Councilor delegated to General Affairs, Civil Status, and Civil Status Official.
The citizen census, a mandatory procedure at 16 years old, and registration on the electoral rolls are presented as the first civic actions. Registration on the electoral rolls is automatic for 18-year-olds who completed their citizen census at 16, or who acquired French nationality after 2018. For other situations, an application for registration is necessary, possible year-round online or at the Hôtel de ville, with deadlines to be met in election years.
