Facing the simultaneous circulation of flu and Covid-19 viruses, combined vaccination is recommended to protect vulnerable individuals and limit severe complications.

Every autumn and winter, seasonal flu viruses and Covid-19 circulate simultaneously. In the most fragile individuals, these infections can lead to serious complications, hospitalization, or death.
Combined vaccination is currently the most effective way to protect oneself against these two infections and limit their impact on health, while also helping to protect more vulnerable people in one's social circle.
In line with the recommendations of the Haute Autorité de santé (High Authority for Health), health authorities encourage eligible individuals to get vaccinated against the flu and Covid-19 during the same period.
Even if vaccines do not always prevent infection, they significantly reduce the risk of severe complications, hospitalization, or death.
In France, Santé publique France (Public Health France) estimates that the flu is responsible for 9,000 to 10,000 deaths each year, directly or indirectly. More than 90% of these concern individuals aged 65 and over. Vaccination could prevent over 2,000 deaths annually.
Despite increased immunity within the population, the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases remain the most exposed to severe forms of Covid-19.
The influenza virus evolves each year. To remain effective, vaccines are adapted each season to target the strains expected to circulate most during the winter epidemic.
Furthermore, the protection provided by the vaccine gradually diminishes over time. This is why annual vaccination is recommended, even if you have been vaccinated in previous years.
For Covid-19, vaccines are also adapted to the evolution of the virus and circulating variants. Vaccination campaigns and booster doses thus help maintain a high level of protection, particularly against severe forms of the disease.
