In Bonnières-sur-Seine, the Yvelines Department hosted a public meeting on October 12, 2026, as part of its citizen dialogue initiative. The event, held at the Louis Jouvet cultural center, attracted a large audience eager to discuss projects shaping the area's development and daily life.
Pierre Bédier, President of the Department, accompanied by departmental councilors Marc Tourelle and Patrick Stefanini, spent nearly two hours answering participants' questions. Discussions covered topics such as secondary schools, healthcare, security, and public transport, clarifying the responsibilities of different administrative levels (municipality, department, region).
Carole, a healthcare assistant from Freneuse, appreciated the frankness of the discussions, particularly regarding the Department's financial situation, which affects its capacity to fund new projects.
During the meeting, Pierre Bédier announced the creation of Allô Routes 78, a new public service for road users. This initiative, stemming from citizen dialogues, aims to inform Yvelines residents and gather their feedback on road-related issues.
The Department, responsible for improving travel and access to employment hubs, takes a new step with this telephone contact point. Inquiries directly concerning departmental roads or projects will be directed to the relevant services.
Access to healthcare was also a key topic, particularly concerning the hospital in Mantes, which faces the same pressures as the wider hospital sector despite a new emergency service. Jean-Pierre, a retired SNCF employee, expressed interest in the Department's involvement in medical centers.
Patrick Stefanini, departmental councilor for the canton, highlighted the Department's efforts to combat medical deserts, mentioning support for the creation of medical centers in Bréval and Bonnières, as well as funding for a telemedicine assistant nurse.
The Department also operates mobile services like the PMI Bus, Health Bus, and Social Insertion Job Bus in this rural canton, improving access to essential services for residents without vehicles or far from public services.
The canton of Bonnières-sur-Seine comprises 69 communes, one-quarter of the Yvelines communes, and has a population of 61,420. The proportion of residents aged 60 and over is 25.1%, higher than the departmental average of 22.4%.
