In response to regular situations of dogs found alone on sidewalks, without collars or tags, the municipality has decided to enhance its intervention capabilities. These new readers can scan the animal's identification number, typically implanted under the skin, and retrieve the owner's contact details through the national Identification File for Domestic Carnivores (I-CAD).
Microchip identification is mandatory for dogs and ensures their safety when found wandering. It helps prevent them from becoming victims of traffic accidents or causing them. If the animal is not claimed, it is placed in a shelter and made available for adoption.
In 2025, 39,292 dogs entered shelters across France. Thanks to identification, 12,955 of them were successfully reunited with their owners. The municipality thanks the association Les 4 pattounes for donating these readers.
Further measures are planned, including equipping officers with specialized transport cages and training them in animal protection and rights. Owners are encouraged to ensure their pet is properly identified and their contact information is up-to-date on the i-cad.fr website.
