The municipality of Saint-Michel-sur-Orge is preparing to submit a file to the prefecture of Essonne to request an inter-ministerial decree recognizing a state of natural disaster. This action follows the exceptional drought that occurred this summer and aims to enable rapid compensation for affected residents.
The procedure involves cataloging the damages suffered by the town's inhabitants and establishing a descriptive report of the event. To strengthen the application, residents who believe they are victims are asked to send to the town hall, by mail or in person before October 9, 2026, a copy of their declaration to their insurer, along with all supporting documents such as photos and estimates.
The compiled file will then be forwarded to the prefecture of Essonne, which will be responsible for commissioning the necessary technical reports before forwarding the complete dossier to the Ministry of the Interior. It will then be processed and submitted to an inter-ministerial commission.
If the commission issues a favorable opinion, a ministerial decree declaring a state of natural disaster may be issued and published in the Official Journal. Residents will then have a maximum of 10 days to file a claim with their insurer if they have not already done so.
