The Centre hospitalier Rives de Seine (CHRDS) expresses its support for World Breastfeeding Week, taking place from October 12 to 18. This initiative aims to promote breastfeeding and raise awareness of its numerous benefits for the health of both mother and child.
Breastfeeding is recognized for contributing to the baby's well-being and strengthening the special bond between mother and child. It is essential to encourage, accompany, and support this process, while respecting the choices and journeys of each mother.
Through this commitment, the CHRDS reaffirms its support for awareness and support initiatives for mothers, aiming to foster a caring and favorable environment for breastfeeding.
Within the maternity ward of the CHRDS, a pediatric nurse and lactation consultant offers interventions every Monday morning. These sessions are designed for expectant parents to help them discover and understand the baby, its skills, needs, and sleep-wake rhythms. They also aim to explain how breastfeeding works and the role of the breast in milk production, ensuring parents are fully engaged from the start of breastfeeding, with the support of the healthcare teams during their stay.
In parallel, Florence, a lactation consultant, trains the staff of the Woman-Child department on breastfeeding approximately twice a year. These sessions cover crucial topics such as the importance of 'Skin-to-skin' contact and the newborn's sensory continuity, their innate skills for latching onto the breast, and the creation of the parent-baby bond. The goal is to optimize the support provided to parents in their breastfeeding plans by addressing the daily practices of healthcare professionals.
