Conference on the history of the École des Mines library

As part of the « 100 years of the reading room » series (1926-2026) and on the occasion of its reading room's centenary, the Mines Paris – PSL library invites historian Isabelle Laboulais for a conference retracing over two centuries of its library's history, from the School's founding in 1794 to the present day.

Isabelle Laboulais, a professor of modern history at the University of Strasbourg, specializing in the social history of science and knowledge and the history of mine administration in the 18th and 19th centuries, will explore the library's role as a place of knowledge and memory for the engineers who shaped it.

The conference revisits the library's history within its institutional and intellectual context: how the collection was built since the School's foundation, the library's role in training mining engineers over the centuries, and how this space has navigated the changes in higher education and research to become the space we know today.

This event is part of the series celebrating a century of the reading room (1926-2026) and looks towards the library's future.
