In partnership with Art Basel Paris, the Beaux-Arts de Paris presents "Küba" by Kutluğ Ataman, in collaboration with Niru Ratman Gallery. The exhibition, held at the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins, features forty television screens interspersed with mismatched armchairs and salvaged furniture, broadcasting the testimonies of residents from Küba, a community that once existed on the outskirts of Istanbul.
Founded in the late 1960s by individuals fleeing political persecution, the Küba community is evoked here through the personal accounts of its former members. Facing the camera, they share their memories, fears, convictions, and dreams. The narratives overlap, with no single voice dominating another—a deliberate choice by artist Kutluğ Ataman, who uses video to explore how identity is constructed through storytelling.
As visitors move through the space, they gradually piece together the portrait of a community shaped by migration, poverty, mutual protection, and survival. This project marks the fourth initiative in the Public Programme realized by Art Basel Paris in collaboration with the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
A mediation program will be available daily from October 20 to 25, 2026, between 2 PM and 5:30 PM, led by students from the École du Louvre.
