The rehabilitation and extension project for Building A in the Python-Duvernois neighborhood commenced on August 31, 2026. Following the deconstruction of two-thirds of the original structure, current work focuses on laying the foundations for the future extension. The entire construction process is expected to continue until early 2029.
Originally built with solid stone and concrete, Building A plays a significant role in the transformation of the Python-Duvernois area. The remaining section is being renovated and complemented by an extension and a new upper floor, notably incorporating wood elements. These new structures will house residential units, a public facility, and commercial and activity spaces.
The renovation of the existing part will continue to accommodate social housing managed by the social landlord RIVP, rethinking 65 apartments. In addition, 24 new social housing units will be created through the building's extension. The project also includes a nursery with a capacity for 36 children in the upper section, and over 2,000 m² of space for activities and shops, designed to invigorate the street and the neighborhood.
The design of the housing prioritizes daily comfort. All apartments, including the smaller ones, will be through-units to promote natural ventilation during warmer periods. Furthermore, each bathroom will feature a window, ensuring natural light and adequate ventilation.
By 2029, the renewed Building A will combine social housing, a facility dedicated to early childhood, and economic activities, fully contributing to the transformation of the Python-Duvernois neighborhood.
