The municipality of Bussy-Saint-Georges has begun the rehabilitation of Jacques-Chirac Square, following the rapid deterioration of play equipment and surfaces, making the site dangerous.

Due to the danger of the space and to secure the site, the municipality proceeded before the autumn holidays with the removal of play structures and the resurfacing of the Jacques-Chirac Square. Developed in 2019-2020, the square had children's play equipment installed in 2021. However, design flaws led to the rapid degradation of the equipment and site amenities, making the area potentially dangerous for users. The playground was cordoned off in October 2026, and the company Pian Entreprise removed the play equipment on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The square's requalification project will be organized in three phases to address safety, greening, and usage clarification issues. Phase 1 will involve the redevelopment of spaces and greening of the square. The soft surfacing of the former playground will be removed to create a lawn area. Existing benches will be kept. A light-colored draining asphalt path will be created to maintain functional access to the residence at 6 rue des Pavées.
Phase 2 plans for the creation of a new play area in the center of the square, away from main pathways, to reduce usage conflicts. It will be integrated into a green environment and designed for children aged 3 to 10 years, considering safety and accessibility requirements. Work is scheduled for the beginning of 2027.
Phase 3 will focus on reconfiguring the part of the square reserved for the Jacques-Chirac school group, in consultation with the teaching staff. The aim is to define an outdoor space exclusively for the school, facilitate outdoor educational activities, and secure access with a fence and a lockable gate.
