As the owner and manager of the Prairie Malécot Natural Sensitive Area (ENS), with the exception of a few private plots, the Department has scheduled significant work for autumn 2026. This site, spanning 15 hectares along the Seine, includes a pond, meadows, and wet woodlands.
The interventions will focus mainly on two areas. In the downstream part of the ENS, on recently acquired and currently degraded plots, work will involve removing exotic plantations (thujas), fence remnants, and demolishing and removing existing structures. Additionally, along the Rue des Vives Eaux near the ENS parking lot by the lock, dangerous trees will be felled and pruned to secure the road and electrical/telephone networks. Tree felling is also planned along paths to ensure visitor safety.
The work schedule is as follows: in the recently acquired plots, vegetation cutting (thujas) is planned for the week of October 12-16, followed by demolition and waste removal from October 19-23. Along Rue des Vives Eaux and in the northern sector of the ENS, safety felling operations will take place between November 02 and 16.
The use of forestry equipment for felling, demolition, and removal operations will lead to temporary closures of certain paths and access points to the ENS. The Department will make every effort to limit disruption and thanks users for their understanding during this period of necessary work for the preservation of the site and everyone's safety.
