After eight years of work and a second phase completed this summer, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Nemours is set to be inaugurated on November 14, revealing the result of an ambitious restoration.

The municipality of Nemours celebrates the completion of the second phase of restoration for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, a landmark of local heritage. This eight-year project required a meticulous approach to preserve the building's history and architectural features.
The first phase, which began in 2018 and concluded in 2021, focused on the exterior, including the refurbishment of sculpted stone pilasters, stained-glass window restoration, and stone network reconstruction. Facade walls, flying buttresses, gargoyles, and roofing elements were also restored at a cost of 2 million euros.
The second phase, conducted from 2022 to 2026, addressed plasterwork, stained-glass windows, lead roofing, and the south slope of the nave's roof. These works, costing 3 million euros, aim to durably protect the edifice from weather and water infiltration.
A third and final phase will soon complete the restoration, notably with the renovation of the bell tower and its interior. In total, over 6 million euros have been invested. The city covered 25% of the funding, with support from the DRAC, the Île-de-France Region, the Department of Seine-et-Marne, and the association Sauvegardons l’Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
