The City of La Courneuve denounces the disruptions caused by the modernization works on the RER B and demands fare compensation and adapted replacement solutions for residents.

Modernization works on the RER B line are causing significant traffic interruptions between Châtelet-les-Halles and Mitry-Claye/Aéroport-Charles-de-Gaulle-2-TGV on weekdays after 10:45 PM, from October 6th to December 11th. Full line closures are also scheduled for the weekends of November 7-8 and 20-21 between Aulnay-sous-Bois and Mitry-Claye, and between these same stations from November 14th to 18th after 10:45 PM.
These interventions aim to renew the line's aging and saturated infrastructure, which serves over a million passengers daily. According to Île-de-France Mobilités (IdFM), the works include replacing catenary lines, rails, and ballast, adapting platforms, reinforcing the electrical supply, and modernizing maintenance depots to accommodate new double-decker trains by 2030, as well as deploying a new signaling system.
These disruptions follow a series of summer works on other lines that have already affected passengers. The mayor, Aly Diouara, has contacted IdFM regarding the inadequacy of the replacement bus service, which leads to significantly longer travel times and conditions deemed undignified.
Given the planned interruptions until 2027, particularly in the evenings and on weekends, the mayor highlights the disproportionate impact on residents of working-class neighborhoods, who are often more reliant on public transport and work irregular hours. He is calling for reduced fares for regular RER B users, a review of the line's closure schedule, adapted replacement solutions, and the establishment of a monitoring committee.
“

"The works are necessary, there are always problems on this line, train breakdowns, signaling issues, electrical problems, and who knows what else… But they must stop treating us like animals! We are transported in dirty, non-air-conditioned trains, we are not always explained why the traffic is interrupted or how long it will last, and we continue to pay for the Navigo."
