In response to street harassment, the City of Montreuil has launched the "Demandez Angela" program. This initiative identifies shops and public places as safe havens where victims can find refuge and assistance. These partner locations, recognizable by their "Demandez Angela" sticker, are trained to welcome victims in a kind and non-judgmental manner.
Individuals who feel threatened, followed, or harassed can seek refuge in one of these establishments. Staff, trained by the Information Center for Women's and Families' Rights (CIDFF) of Seine-Saint-Denis, will provide a safe welcome, a chair, a glass of water, an electrical outlet, and can contact emergency services if needed (17, 112).
The initiative is based on three fundamental principles: providing assistance until the person is out of danger, welcoming them kindly without judgment or discriminatory remarks, and informing employees to ensure the quality of care. Participating businesses commit to displaying the sticker, undergoing training, and being listed in the City's communication materials.
The City of Montreuil is actively seeking new partners, including bars, shops, cultural venues, associations, and any structure wishing to help make public spaces safer. Interested establishments can complete an application form and send it to demandezangela@montreuil.fr.
The list of partner establishments spans various neighborhoods in Montreuil, featuring restaurants, social centers, bakeries, shops, cultural centers, and municipal facilities, ensuring broad coverage across the territory.
