The redevelopment of the Porte de Montreuil begins with the closure of the outer ring road exit ramp from October 20 to December 17, 2026, marking the start of a major transformation of the site.

After years of debates and consultations, the project by the City of Paris, aiming to transform the roundabout into a large green square, is about to start. Objectives include resolving urban dysfunctions and improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
By 2030, a large square will cross the boulevard périphérique to better connect Paris, Montreuil, and Bagnolet. This square will be entirely dedicated to pedestrians, with a secure double-lane cycle path along its perimeter. The famous flea market will also be redeveloped and greened.
The first phase of works begins on Monday, March 30, 2026, with the securing and delimitation of the construction site using hoardings. Traffic will be maintained for all users.
For cyclists, a secure path will bypass the current roundabout to the south, leading to Avenue Benoît Frachon on the Montreuil side. Pedestrians will follow a similar route, connecting Paris to Montreuil and facilitating access to shops on Rue de Paris or Avenue du Professeur André Lemierre.
Motorists will have 2 x 2 lanes around the construction zone, with access to the Périphérique maintained, except on a few nights. Businesses on both sides, Paris and Montreuil, will continue their activities, including the Recyclerie Emmaüs Coup de main and the flea market.
This project, awaited for nearly twenty years in Montreuil, aims to resolve issues of noise, pollution, and traffic. It is part of the ongoing works within the Zone d'Aménagement Concerté (ZAC) Fraternité.
The provisional schedule runs from 2026 to 2031, with the creation of public spaces (2026-2030) and buildings (2027-2029). The provisional budget is 220 million euros, including the planting of 704 trees and the creation of 12,000 m² of green spaces to form a 40,000 m² rectangular square.
An exhibition dedicated to the project is open to the public at the Project House on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
