A former volunteer and then professional firefighter, Captain Marqué has risen through the ranks of the Val-d’Oise fire department. His commitment, which began at age 18, is driven by the desire for a physically demanding activity useful to the public, and by strong human values such as solidarity, respect, and cohesion.
After postings in Franconville, Montmorency, Eaubonne, and Osny, he returns to Éragny-sur-Oise, where he reconnects with some of the staff he knew previously. His career includes varied experiences, from operational service to prevention, and managing the new 18/112 call handling system.
What fascinates him most is collective action and the sense of accomplishment after a major intervention. However, he laments a decline in respect for the profession, sometimes facing hostility during social unrest. Agent safety is paramount, requiring careful risk-benefit assessment during operations.
Despite challenges, team spirit and structured psychological support within the SDIS help manage significant interventions. Local operations like the 2015 fire at the La Challe parking lot in Éragny and the warehouse fire in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône in 2019, as well as external operations (OPEX) for forest fires, highlight the intensity of this profession.
