Franconville celebrated the first weekend of September the 60th anniversary of its twinning with Viernheim, welcoming a German delegation and representatives from Mława, Poland.

The town of Franconville marked the occasion on the first weekend of September by celebrating the 60th anniversary of its twinning with Viernheim, made official in 1966. For this event, the municipality hosted a delegation of officials and agents from the German twin town, as well as representatives from Mława, Poland. These three days were dedicated to friendship, sharing, and conviviality, marked by numerous events.
This meeting between the twin towns aimed to strengthen exchanges between associations and foster the emergence of new common projects. "Numerous avenues for joint actions have already been discussed during the stay," stated Marie-Christine Cavecchi, President of the Val d’Oise and 1st Deputy Mayor for Culture and International Relations. Jacques Ducrocq, Municipal Councillor for Twinning Actions, highlighted the importance of bringing together current stakeholders and future generations of the twinning.
During their visit, the delegations had the opportunity to explore the Associations Forum, meet various local associations, and discover the town's resources, including its main facilities and the functioning of its services.
An official ceremony took place on Sunday morning on the forecourt of the Town Hall. In the presence of officials and representatives from the twinning associations of the three countries, including Nathalie Lemoine, president of the Rencontres Villes Jumelées association for Franconville, a time capsule was buried. It contains drawings by children and letters from teenagers from Franconville, Vierheim, and Mława, symbolizing friendship and future ties with the message: "United by friendship, bound for the future. The children of our three towns bear witness today for tomorrow."

"60 years for a Twinning is rare enough to be celebrated and long enough to measure the progress made. The promise made in 1966 has been kept, because it has been taken up, decade after decade, by residents, elected officials, municipal agents, and volunteers who have chosen to continue this story."

Xavier Melki · Mayor of Franconville

"A Twinning is not lived solely because the same people constantly recall a common past. It lives because new people constantly associate with it, because they meet, get to know each other, form friendships, and because each generation keeps this Twinning alive in its own way."

Jörg Scheidel · 1st Deputy Mayor of Viernheim

"Please accept my warmest congratulations on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Twinning between Franconville-la-Garenne and Viernheim. Six decades of effective cooperation between our cities are magnificent proof of a deep and lasting friendship, built and maintained over the years on the basis of mutual respect, fraternal solidarity, and the will to act together for the benefit of our citizens."

Mariusz Dziubiński · Municipal Councillor of Mława
