Sigidurs, the public body responsible for waste management, is optimizing its bulky waste collection service starting January 1, 2027. The aim is to improve collection efficiency, reduce "false bulky waste" (items not meant for this service), and offer a more tailored service to residents' needs. This change is part of a broader waste collection optimization initiative started in 2009, in line with the AGEC law (Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy).
This new system offers several benefits: collection becomes simpler, faster, and more accessible, eliminating the need to wait for a scheduled date. The service remains free directly at your home, unlike in some regions. Collection slots will be more frequent, available upon request via phone call. An agent will help identify items when booking, proposing a collection slot within 15 days.
The procedure involves three steps: making an appointment with the collection provider (whose number will be on the 2027 collection calendar distributed in December 2026), preparing the bulky items the day before the appointment and marking them with a tracking number, and finally, the doorstep collection where the resident's presence is not required. It's important to follow sorting instructions and not add items after the phone-based inventory.
This service is for residents in houses or small apartment buildings. Large housing estates and collective residences will continue with fixed collection dates. Each household can use the service a maximum of 12 times per year, with an estimated 15-day delay between booking and collection.
For bulky or hazardous waste not accepted (paint pots, rubble, tires), the territory's recycling centers remain accessible. Schedules and addresses are available at www.sigidurs.fr. Donating good-condition items to reuse centers is also encouraged.
