Since September 1st, a mandatory "prior consultation," organized by the project leaders of Thermo-sur-Seine, is underway. On the dedicated platform, www.thermo-sur-seine-concertation.fr, or through the register available at the Town Hall reception, residents of Maisons-Alfort are called to mobilize and make the voice of Val-de-Marne residents heard.
As a reminder, last December, the City of Paris approved the "Thermo-sur-Seine" project, which plans the installation of a new incinerator in Vitry-sur-Seine, near Maisons-Alfort, without any prior dialogue with the Department of Val-de-Marne or the concerned municipalities. This new industrial facility, with its three chimneys over 100 meters high, will burn more than 450,000 tons of waste per year. The resulting pollution will add to that of the 3 incinerators already present in Val-de-Marne, even though the department already bears an incineration level twice the average of other Île-de-France departments hosting such facilities.
Despite the potentially harmful consequences for the health, environment, and quality of life of over 500,000 Val-de-Marne residents living within a 4 km radius, no prior study has been conducted by the project leaders to assess its risks.
The Mayor of Maisons-Alfort, Romain MARIA, the president of the Department of Val-de-Marne, Olivier CAPITANIO, and the Deputy Michel HERBILLON unsuccessfully requested a public meeting in Maisons-Alfort. Hundreds of opposition messages are published daily on the consultation platform, which closes on November 1st. "This project, which the City of Paris wants to impose unilaterally, is an inadmissible violence," stated Romain MARIA, urging residents to continue their mobilization.
A petition launched by the Department of Val-de-Marne last March, with over 16,000 signatures, also aims to achieve the abandonment of the project.
