This year, the master world championships (35 years and over), organized in Daegu, South Korea, offered a unique moment for France. The French national anthem was played twice within minutes, thanks to athletes from Nogent-sur-Marne, representing the athletics club UAI (Entente 94).
Jérôme Chiquet claimed the world title in the 3000m steeplechase in the M50 category. This victory adds to an already impressive record, including a European title in 2025 and a French record in his specialty. The athlete also won two silver medals: in the 5000m, finishing just behind the untouchable Kenyan world record holder Francis Kipkoech Bowen, and in cross-country with the French M50 team, all achieved under extreme heat and humidity conditions.
These world titles are the culmination of a journey marked by difficult moments, including an injury that prevented him from competing for several weeks and uncertainty about completing his season. Jérôme meticulously optimized every detail of his preparation with his coach Cyril Pirali.
A few minutes later, Séverine Bourgogne, already the European champion in 2025, successfully defended her world title in the M45 hammer throw. She also secured 5th place in the discus and 6th in the pentathlon throw.
Also noteworthy are the finalist placements of the third Nogent athlete present, Eric Rozwadowski, who finished 6th in the hammer throw, 8th in the heavy hammer, and 7th in the pentathlon throw in the M50 category. These high-level performances confirm the strong momentum of the Nogent-sur-Marne athletics club and its masters athletes.
