The President of UVSQ, Professor Loïc Josseran, expressed on behalf of the entire university community his deep emotion and compassion following the racist terrorist attack that occurred on Friday, October 23rd, in the Yvelines. The attack claimed one life and left several injured.
His thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and their families, to whom he extends his sincere condolences and support. He also expresses solidarity with the residents of Trappes, La Verrière, and Coignières, deeply affected by these events. The university is aware of the concern and sense of insecurity such acts can cause among its students and staff living in these areas.
The President commends the actions of the internal security forces, under the authority of the Prefect of Yvelines, as well as the emergency services. He also highlights the role of local mayors and elected officials in supporting residents and maintaining social cohesion.
In the face of racism and terrorism, Loïc Josseran stressed that such acts have no place in society and undermine human dignity and equality. He emphasized the collective responsibility to foster fraternity and defend republican principles.
The University has a particular responsibility in this fight, educating free minds capable of resisting manipulation and ideologies of hate. UVSQ aims to be a place where knowledge emancipates, debate occurs with respect, and diversity is a strength, thereby contributing to the democratic vitality of the country.
In these painful circumstances, UVSQ reaffirms its commitment to youth, knowledge, and republican values, aiming to educate free and enlightened citizens.
