The Department of Yvelines supports rural municipalities in preserving their historical heritage through a financial and technical aid program launched in 2017.

Churches, washhouses, chapels, and small bridges, testaments to local history, often represent a maintenance challenge for municipalities, especially the smaller ones. Faced with these difficulties, the Department of Yvelines has implemented a preventive approach to avoid costly restorations.
Since 2017, the "Rural Heritage Maintenance" program, developed with the territorial engineering agency IngénierY, assists local authorities in preserving their historical buildings, objects, and documents. It aims to prevent deterioration by establishing maintenance logs for each building.
This building's "health record" lists its condition, identifies points of concern, and schedules preventive interventions over several years. A roof leak treated in time, for example, can prevent more significant and costly damage to the framework or interior decorations.
During the departmental session on September 25, 2026, aid totaling €300,294 was approved to support several municipalities in the Yvelines. These funds will finance the creation of 6 maintenance logs, the update of 2 existing logs, and maintenance work on 18 historical buildings across the department.
Since 2018, 162 heritage structures in small municipalities of the Yvelines have already been restored thanks to this program, covering both protected historical monuments and less known but equally valuable local heritage.
It is recalled that since the 1905 law on the separation of Churches and State, most churches built before that date belong to the municipalities, which are responsible for their maintenance.
