The City of Guyancourt is bringing its pedestrian crossings into compliance with the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM), removing motorized parking within five meters of these zones to improve pedestrian visibility and safety.

As part of its compliance with the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM), the City of Guyancourt will remove several parking spaces located within five meters upstream of pedestrian crossings. This measure, which must be implemented by December 31, 2026, aims to enhance pedestrian safety by improving their visibility when crossing and that of drivers regarding the presence of pedestrians.
The City, aware of the importance of parking for its residents, has collaborated with Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (SQY), which is responsible for road infrastructure, to analyze the affected locations. Solutions have been studied to retain parking spaces where technically feasible, through relocating pedestrian crossings, reorganizing parking areas, or modifying infrastructure.
When retaining parking is not possible, the freed-up spaces may be redeveloped for other uses, such as installing parking for bicycles and scooters, or enlarging tree pits to promote greening and soil de-sealing.
Following these analyses, interventions have been validated with SQY, and the first works will begin shortly. These developments meet a regulatory obligation and primarily aim to allow everyone to move and cross the street more safely.
