Due to the summer's rainfall deficit, the water level in the Itteville marsh has significantly dropped. This situation has exacerbated several concerning phenomena identified by SIARJA (Intercommunal Syndicate for the Management of the Juine River and its Tributaries) and CENS 91 (Conservatory of Sensitive Natural Areas of Essonne).
The identified risks include a danger of getting stuck due to unstable mud zones, a health risk related to the development of cyanobacteria favored by shallow depths and high temperatures, and a fragilization of the aquatic environment which has already led to fish mortality due to lack of oxygen.
Consequently, a municipal decree now prohibits access to the marsh, its immediate banks, and dried or muddy areas. This ban, effective since October 2, 2026, applies to walkers, vehicles, and pets. Information signs and safety devices mark the affected zones.
These measures are part of a prevention and preservation effort for the natural environment. The municipality, SIARJA, and CENS 91 are monitoring the situation's evolution to adapt measures to hydrological and sanitary conditions. Authorities thank the public for respecting these prohibitions and safety devices.
