In front of the Itteville town hall, a citizen gathering was held this Monday, October 19th, at the call of the Mayor. The event aimed to provide support to elected officials, public servants, shopkeepers, and professionals affected by violence and vandalism.
The Mayor emphasized that, although the town was not directly impacted, "we cannot remain indifferent to the vandalism and fires that have occurred elsewhere." She also stressed the need to avoid lumping together those who legitimately express their demands and the perpetrators of violence.
“"Making our democracy live is not imposing silence. It is guaranteeing everyone the right to express themselves, while refusing violence to prevail over speech."
This gathering also provided an opportunity for exchanges with residents, some of whom expressed their concerns about the situation. The event was described as a moment of solidarity, listening, and dialogue.
