Plaine Commune's affiliation with the Metropolitan Agency for Shared Mobility (Agemob), which manages the Vélib' service, was officially approved during the Territorial Council meeting on Tuesday, September 17. This integration grants Plaine Commune the representation of the territory's interests within the decision-making bodies concerning the deployment and management of the bike-sharing service.
Previously, the municipalities within Plaine Commune that had Vélib' stations – notably Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, Aubervilliers, Saint-Denis, La Courneuve, and L’Île-Saint-Denis – were directly affiliated with Agemob. The transfer of this responsibility to the Plaine Commune level will now enable a more comprehensive approach to travel, considering inter-municipal flows and the specific needs of each district.
This evolution aligns with the objectives set forth in Plaine Commune's Local Mobility Plan (PLM) and Territorial Climate Air Energy Plan (PCAET). These plans aim to promote sustainable mobility and offer viable alternatives to individual car use.
The transfer of competence paves the way for an expansion of the Vélib' service into currently underserved areas. The teams at Plaine Commune, in collaboration with the relevant municipalities, Agemob, and the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis, are working to identify potential new locations for station installations. Approximately forty new stations are under consideration, with a priority given to about ten of them, slated for service by early 2027.
