The municipality of Fosses is bringing its pedestrian crossings into compliance before the December 31, 2026 deadline, aiming to improve visibility and safety for both pedestrians and drivers.

In accordance with the Mobility Orientation Law, the municipality has committed to clearing space upstream of each pedestrian crossing by the end of 2026. This measure aims to enhance visibility for drivers and, crucially, for pedestrians wishing to cross, while also avoiding potential fines for vehicle users unaware of this new state-imposed regulation.
Rather than applying a uniform measure, the municipality has adopted a pragmatic approach. A precise survey of priority pedestrian crossings was conducted, considering on-the-ground realities, actual usage, and reports from residents and the gendarmerie. The goal is to protect areas where danger is real and to preserve parking and the living environment, avoiding a disproportionate loss of parking spaces.
Following inconclusive tests, particularly with 'yellow cross' markings that were visually unsatisfactory, the municipality opted for a more sober solution: a continuous yellow line upstream and downstream of pedestrian crossings within the defined perimeter. This discreet marking improves readability while clearly signaling the need for caution to road users.

On a continuous yellow line, stopping and parking are strictly prohibited. Drivers who fail to comply face sanctions: a fine of €135 or even vehicle impoundment. Be warned…

The municipality relies on the civic-mindedness and vigilance of everyone for safe street sharing. A map of the affected areas is available for consultation.
