For its 14th edition, the Kalypso festival brings together eighteen companies for twenty-three performances across nineteen venues in Île-de-France, with three events offered in Créteil from November 13th to 20th.

The Kalypso festival, conceived by choreographer Mourad Merzouki, has been accompanying the evolution of hip-hop dance for nearly fifteen years. This edition particularly highlights its ability to blend various disciplines such as photography, visual arts, new magic, nunchaku, and artificial intelligence. Personal stories, memory, and intergenerational links also run through several shows. The festival also gives prominence to emerging talents with three new creations and projects that foster audience interaction.
In Créteil, the Maison des arts et de la culture will host Raw by Cie Kilaï on November 13th. Choreographed by Sandrine Lescourant, this performance gives a voice to four dancers who express their stories, journeys, doubts, joys, and energy through their bodies. A freestyle and raw performance, full of emotion, through which they tell their world.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of his company Käfig, choreographer Mourad Merzouki will bring together a hundred amateur dancers from Créteil at the Maison du handball with Kaléidoscope – version XXL on November 19th. This giant show, composed of excerpts from his repertoire, testifies to the unique link between the city, its inhabitants, and the artistic history of this major figure in French hip-hop.
As a new feature this year, the Madeleine Rebérioux community center will host a shared performance on November 20th, featuring Jardiin and Aqua, two 30-minute pieces accessible for ages 6 and up. In Jardiin, dancer and choreographer Théophile Bensusan, known as Rokej, makes the nunchaku an artistic movement partner. With Aqua, dancers Mounir Amhiln and Théo Farjounel combine breakdance and new magic to tell the story of a friendship's birth and evolution.
The Kalypso Festival runs from November 1st to December 12th in Île-de-France. More information at https://karavelkalypso.com/
